A couple who wants to stay in a panoramic and refined location in the historic center. It is ideal for those who want to move around the city on foot, to discover the Baroque monuments, and for those who want to travel easily by car to visit the surroundings of Ragusa and the baroque destinations of the Val di Noto (Modica, Scicli, Ispica).

Sette Cappelli apartment is located in the historical center of Ragusa, the capital of the province of the same name, in the South East of Sicily.
It is located on the first floor of a building overlooking a characteristic stepped square enjoying a beautiful viewpoint and from which the ancient staircase that connects the two historic centers of Ragusa begins, crossing seventeenth-century palaces, churches and stately monuments.
The apartment is in Corso Mazzini, which from Ragusa North reaches the Baroque heart of Ragusa South (Ibla), offering numerous and suggestive panoramic views.
The district of Santa Maria delle Scale, one of the oldest in Ragusa, fascinates visitors with its typically Sicilian atmosphere given by the presence of small houses, alleys and ancient streets in white stone, and with the breathtaking view that can be enjoyed looking out towards the valley, dominated by Ibla and its majestic Cathedral of San Giorgio.
The accommodation is also located 25 km from the sandy beaches of Marina di Ragusa and 28 km from “Pio La Torre” airport of Comiso.

The history and the neighborhood
Sette Cappelli apartment (the name used to refer, in an ironic key, to the nobility of the neighborhood) and its interiors wink at an aristocratic Sicilian world and are characterized by ironic and eclectic colors and furnishing choices.
The building that now houses Sette Cappelli apartment is one of the first houses built in Ragusa in the aftermath of the 1693 earthquake that destroyed much of the Val di Noto and which marked the birth of the Iblean Baroque. It stands on a stepped square, a meeting place for liturgical and social events and, more recently, a film set: the director Giuseppe Tornatore, in the nineties, chose it as the set of the film “Man of the stars” and numerous television commercials had place here. Besides, some scenes by Inspector Montalbano’s series shot here by contributing to make this staircase famous. Sette Cappelli and its interiors were also the set of the last episode of the series inspired by the stories of Andrea Camilleri, “Il Catalanotti method “. In this square, until a few decades ago, all the inhabitants of the neighborhood gathered to recite the rosary, from the most destitute and modest populace, to the noble, the so-called lord of the “SEVEN HATS”. Not far from the district, along stairways and winding streets, stands the Arab quarter of San Paolo, known as “Raffo” for its characteristic terrace structure. In 1100, Roger the Norman chose this neighborhood as the site for a new Cistercian monastery which about two centuries later was transformed into a church, called Santa Maria delle Scale. The strategic position of the latter made it, in the aftermath of the post-earthquake reconstruction, a geographical demarcation point between the upper Ragusa, of the so-called “sangiovannari” (devotees of San Giovanni, patron saint of the “new” city) and the lower Ragusa of the so-called “sangiorgiari” (devotees of San Giorgio, patron saint of Ragusa Ibla). It is said that right here, real sentries, shouting “Cu Viva?” stationed themselves to check that no “foreigner” dared to cross the borders of their territory. The interiors and the architectural and design criteria of the accommodation represent as many tales: the stories of an eclectic family that are intertwined with those of a place full of suggestions, in an aesthetic hybridized between the Iblei Mount area and Milan and between two generations.
