In the area of Pachino, along the southeastern coast of Sicily and 53 km from Syracuse, lies the seaside resort of Marzamemi, which offers two wide beaches. The beach of Spinazza, accessible on foot a few minutes from the centre, is characterized by golden sand, apart from a rocky stretch towards the port, and is ideal for those who love to relax in a clear sea, without renouncing to the comfort of the beach clubs and restaurants. The seabed tend to slope gently a few meters from the water's edge. After the coast, there are some very suggestive natural bays where you can enjoy a wonderful sunset.
To the south of the port, there is a small stretch of sandy beach, partly free and partly equipped with beach clubs. The resort is very popular among tourists especially during high season, which is why the beaches could be particularly crowded during the months of July and August.
The seaside village of Marzamemi
Marzamemi is a small fishing village located about 3 km from Pachino. Its history is linked to that of its “tonnara”, one of the oldest tuna-fishing factories in eastern Sicily. Dating back to the 1700s, the “tonnara” remained active until the early 1900s and guaranteed the prosperity of Marzamemi thanks to the tuna processing and maritime trade.
Today Marzamemi is a picturesque tourist destination that still preserves the memories of its past in the fishermen's houses arranged around the central square and in front of the small port. Nowadays they houses renowned restaurants, trattorias and bars that enliven the warm summer evenings, among the typical smells and flavors of the local gastronomy.
