  • WHITE SANDY BEACH

Near the mouth of the river Cassibile, between Avola and Syracuse, along the eastern coast of Sicily, lies the beach of Gelsomineto or "A Marchisa", as these territories were once the seaside resort of the Marquises of Cassibile. This bay of fine white sand, bathed by a crystalline sea, is an uncontaminated and enchanting oasis surrounded by the Pine Forest of the Gelsomineto, so called because jasmine trees grow there. The dense forest of pine trees is located directly on the edge of the beach and offers an equipped area and a paying parking. At the ends of the small bay there are verdant cliffs of limestone, on which you can easily climb. The beach is therefore protected from the winds and the sea is almost calm.

The mouth of the river Cassibile

North to the pine forest there is the mouth of the river Cassibile, which marks the border between the territories of Avola and Syracuse. The area has a rich marine fauna formed by sea basses, eels and mullets, as well as hosting migratory birds such as herons, ducks and flamingos in certain seasons.
